The Cougars pull the majority of their prospects from California with a mix of Texas and Washington typically filling out the rest of the class. Under Mike Leach, WSU has tapped into Arizona a bit and that is the case again this year with offensive lineman Davis Perrott officially signing his letter of intent and joining WSU's 2015 recruiting class.
Perrott hails from Phoenix where he played at Mountain Poiinte High School. He's a consensus 3-star recruit according to 247 Sports and ranked as the No. 149 offensive tackle by their average rankings. Perrott is relatively new to the offensive line, moving to tackle during his senior season. He showed enough to intrigue Washington State's staff and committed to the Cougars in early december over offers from California, Boise State and others.
At 6-foot-5 and 270 pounds, Perrott has the long frame the Cougars like, even if he comes in a little lighter than some of the other offensive line recruits. While currently undersized, Perrott is very athletic for a player his size and has a ton of potential if he can maintain that ability while filling out in a college weight program. Perrott plays with good pad level and moves very well. If he played like he did but had another 30 pounds and a year of experience, he'd probably be one of the more highly-touted offensive linemen in the West. Instead, he will come to Pullman as a bit of a project with plenty of potential down the road. A redshirt season and continued work on conditioning and technique and he has the potential to be a multi-year starter for the Cougars.
Brian Anderson's quick evaluation:
A little lighter than some other lineman recruits, but is extremely athletic for his size. Fast enough to reach linebackers at second level. Really technically sound in his pass blocking and run blocks like a beast. Drives through every run block. Another guy that finishes most plays with the defender on his back.
