WSU football recruiting: LB Aaron Porter officially signs his letter of intent

Aaron Porter is officially a Coug.

WSU Athletic Communications

Washington State's linebacker group got a boost on Wednesday with JUCO linebacker and former UCLA Bruin Aaron Porter officially signing his letter of intent and joining WSU's 2015 recruiting class. Porter spent two seasons at UCLA before playing last year at Cerritos Community College.

While Porter is touted as a 3-star prospect this go around, he was highly-regarded as a 4-star prospect coming out of high school. He was among the highest-ranked middle linebackers in the class of 2012 and while he eventually moved to fullback at UCLA, he will be on the defensive side of the ball. Porter played at La Habra High School -- the same school as current WSU wide receiver Brett Bartolone. The two were teammates and part of the same recruiting class. Porter didn't waste any time this recruiting cycle, verbally committing to WSU in May.

Because of his time at UCLA and at Cerritos, Porter will come to Pullman with two years to play two. He should immediately be in the mix to play right away. With Darryl Monroe departing, Porter and Peyton Pelluer could battle it out for the starting job in fall camp. At a minimum, Porter should be in the mix right away and a special teams contributor. Porter was a tackling machine in high school and remained a very productive player in junior college. Continuing that will be a big boost for WSU's linebacker depth.

Brian Anderson's evaluation:

Underrated speed. Scrapes well, he gets into run fits in a hurry and flies to the boundary. His closing speed stood out quite a bit.
