The Washington State Cougars picked up a surprise signing on Wednesday when defensive lineman Marquise Freeman sent in his letter of intent.

The defensive end from Cocoa, Florida, had been previously uncommittted but boasted reported offers from the Louisville Cardinals, Nebraska Cornhuskers, Syracuse Orange and Pittsburgh Panthers, among others. He’s rated as a low-end three-star recruit.

Perhaps the most notable thing about Freeman, other than his surprise signing, is his measurables: He’s listed as a defensive end despite weighing just 185 pounds at 6-foot-3. To that end, he seems like a guy who’s probably destined for RUSH linebacker (or whatever the new defensive coordinator is going to call that position) at WSU.

He’s got the kind of frame that could end up reminding you of some of the speed rushers of yesteryear like Isaac Brown or D.D. Acholonu. Here’s some video!

That brings WSU’s recruiting class up to 19 commitments, with 17 of those having signed and sent letters before noon today. You can check out all the progress of the class right here.
