The Washington State Cougars will be seeking their first win over an FBS opponent when they visit Rice-Eccles Stadium to take on the Utah Utes on Saturday. WSU is coming off a "moral victory" type of game when it took Oregon to the wire last week. Utah is coming off an actual victory over Michigan in the Big House.
WSU QB Connor Halliday had a stellar day against the Utes last season en route to a 49-37 win that clinched bowl eligibility for the Cougars. He's continued that success season, and is on pace to break plenty of records if he can keep that up.
Last time the Cougars played Utah on the road wasn't nearly as enjoyable. WSU narrowly avoided becoming the first Mike Leach team to get shutout with a last-second score in a 49-6 loss.
The Cougars are hoping a youth movement in the secondary will lead to some improved play, or at the very least some improved athleticism. True freshman Sulaiman Hameed will be getting the start after looking good in extending playing time against the Ducks.
