The Washington State Cougars and Cal Bears are both seeking their fifth wins of the season as they face off in Berkeley on Saturday afternoon. It’s a battle of strength vs. strength with the WSU offense against the Cal defense, and weakness vs. weakness on the other side.

Is Cal’s defense some sort of Air Raid kryptonite? It has sure seemed that in recent years, where WSU was averaged just 11 points in 2017 and 2018. Cal doesn’t do anything particularly exotic against the Cougs, but it has been effective.

When the Golden Bears have the ball, it has been a struggle. The Cal offense is among the worst in the country, and has been at its worse since starting quarterback Chase Garbers went down to an injury. WSU’s defense isn’t good, but it may be made to look much better in Berkeley.

There always seems to be weirdness when Cal and WSU get together, so that’s probably gonna play a factor again today. The Cougs are favored, but that’s hasn’t always mattered in this matchup.
