The Washington State Cougars (3-0) open Pac-12 play by hosting the UCLA Bruins (0-3) on Saturday night in Martin Stadium. The Cougs come into this matchup as 19-point favorites (slightly less in some places). That’s a huge number for WSU against a team from Los Angeles.
UCLA is struggling in its second year under head coach Chip Kelly. It seems that Kelly has abandoned the blur offense that made him so successful at Oregon, and that has led to his offense being almost completely inept.
The Cougs are rolling offensively, and are in prime position to carve up UCLA’s weak pass defense. The Bruins are giving up 10.5 yards per pass attempt. WSU quarterback Anthony Gordon is averaging 10.9 yards per pass attempt. It’s the unstoppable force meeting a very movable object.
The weather forecast looks like good Air Raidin’ weather, with temperatures in the high 50s with almost no wind and nearly zero chance of precipitation. The Cougs should put up points, and it is unlikely that Bruins will have the firepower to keep up.
